Pocket PC 2000 was the debut of Microsoft's Pocket PC platform, succeeding the earlier Palm-size PC line. It targeted personal digital assistants (PDAs) with 240×320 (QVGA) touchscreens operated with a stylus.

Pocket PC 2002 refined the platform with a look inspired by the brand-new Windows XP, and was the first release also offered for phone-enabled devices under the “Pocket PC 2002 Phone Edition” name.

The first release under the Windows Mobile name. It shipped in four editions: Pocket PC Premium, Pocket PC Professional, Smartphone, and Pocket PC Phone Edition.
